From a psychiatric standpoint, Aldo is very nearly mentally handicapped. The Montanas certainly didn't welcome him from the goodness of their heart but because he has the unusual talent of being able to turn any object into a potentially lethal weapon. And for a professional hit man, that's a pretty handy trick.

Aldo's personality can be best described as a "loveable dumbass". In Montana Day Afternoon, he makes quite a few blunders someone of at least an average IQ wouldn't do. One would be when grabbing the wrong box when bumping into Enzo, that contained the necklace and thinking it was the weapon he was to use to make a hit (which he succeeds in). Another is when he tries to make a call at the local police station, not noticing that there are several wanted posters of him everywhere. Though he meant well, Enzo decides to let him stay in jail anyway.
